Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Protocols for Libraries, Archives and Information Services
The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Protocols for Libraries, Archives and Information Services was published in 1995 by the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA). The Protocols were endorsed by the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Library, Information and Resource Network (ATSILIRN). They were updated in 2010.
Australian Charities and Not-for-Profit Commission (ACNC)
The Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission (ACNC) is the independent national regulator of charities. Societies that are not-for-profit companies limited by guarantee need to provide financial and director information to the ACNC.
Australian Securities and Investment Commission (ASIC)
Australian Securities and Investment Commission (ASIC) provides helpful information on forming a not-for-profit or charitable organisation and the different company structures.
Fair Trading NSW provides helpful information on incorporating and running an association.
Federation of Australian Historical Societies (FAHS)
The RAHS is a member of the Federation of Australian Historical Societies (FAHS). Its website has several useful documents on disaster planning and recovery, heritage identification and protection and heritage tourism.
National Library of Australia – Legal Deposit
The National Library of Australia provides information on legal deposit. One copy of everything published electronically or in print is to be given to the National Library and the relevant state or territory library in which it was published.

The National Library of Australia provides information on contributing digitised newspapers on Trove, including:
- Guidelines on how organisations can digitise content and plan and prepare budget bids.
- An overview of the Digitisation Program workflow process.
Royal Historical Society of Victoria: Guide to Managing Historical Societies
The Royal Historical Society of Victoria has published a Guide to establishing and operating historical societies, which provides sample policies, procedures, guidelines and forms. These are intended to provide, as guides only, assistance for groups preparing documents for managing their collections, with articles and links to online resources.
State Records NSW: Managing Local Collections
In partnership with the RAHS, State Records NSW held free workshops on Managing Local Collections in regional NSW between July and December 2012. The workshop covered the following areas: storage; developing collection policies; arranging and describing collections; conservation and preservation; databases; digitisation, and access policies.
Volunteering Australia is the national peak body for volunteering, working to advance volunteering in the community. It has useful guidelines and templates for managing volunteers.
