Our Responsibilities

Governance

The Royal Australian Historical Society (RAHS) is committed to good governance practices that support the organisation’s core goals. The RAHS Council – a body of twelve representatives elected by our members – runs the organisation. The Council meets ten to twelve times throughout the year. After every annual general meeting, the Council elects an executive committee to support our employees in delivering our strategic initiatives and core operational activities.

The RAHS Council is also the primary custodian for our home, History House, located at 133 Macquarie Street, Sydney. Through continuous conservation and stewardship, the Council ensures that History House remains a community space of State Heritage significance. The RAHS library and archives, situated at History House, are another core resource that the Council must manage in a way that supports our educational and research roles.

Below are the main governance information and policies that underpin how the Society makes its decisions and conducts its core activities.
